How to Follow-Through on Your Vision to Get Organized

Let’s say you want to create an art room in your unfinished basement, a yoga room in your spare bedroom, or transform a cluttered space in your home and use it to operate your business. Whatever the vision may be, you have it in your head but it simply hasn’t happened yet.

Why not?!

Perhaps you haven’t really thought it through yet, OR, you haven’t fully committed.

Turn your shoulds into MUST!

Have you ever told yourself that you should do something?

I should lose weight.

I should eat healthier.

I should spend less.

I should stop procrastinating.

Meanwhile, you’re shoulding all over yourself and getting nothing done!

When we turn our SHOULDS into MUSTS we get stuff done. For example:

I must get up and go to work.

I must eat food.

I must drink water.

I must take care of my kids.

Now, what if we made all of those shoulds a must? How much better would your life be? Would you be happier? Healthier? Would you have more fun in your life?

There were a lot of things that I kept saying to myself such as

“I should eat healthier and meditate”

However, I kept procrastinating and making up excuses and reasons behind my lacking behaviour. Through reflection, I now know the consequences behind not doing those things and I have made them a must in my life.

It’s not easy to commit unless you have a solid WHY and know why you’re doing it in the first place.

This is where knowing your outcome comes into place.

Know your outcome.

Let’s say you want to turn your spare bedroom into an office, however, you feel too overwhelmed by the process because there is so much stuff in the space. So, what do most people do? They give up before they even get started.

No!!!

When I work with my clients, a common question I ask is, “what intention do you have for your space? Why do you want to declutter it and make it organized?” Some people have an answer and others stare at me blankly and say, “hmm, I’m not too sure!”

Secondly, I ask my client, “how long has your space been this way and how long have you wanted to get organized for?” The typical response is, “YEARS!

Why?

Because they didn’t turn their should into must, they didn’t fully commit, and they didn’t know their outcome.

When you know your outcome, your entire life will change!

Quick example.

Let’s say you’re going on a road trip and you want to drive to Florida. You know where you want to go but you don’t have a map! You look at the map one time and think it’s enough to get to where you’re going. After the first turn, you have no idea where you’re going so you give up and drive back home.

The similar thing happens when people think about getting organized.

Here is an example of knowing your outcome in terms of getting organized:

I encourage you to add some photos of the desired outcome so you can really bring the vision to life! Because I do this every day for clients, the vision was very clear in my mind. However, for other aspects of my life, I always create a vision board to make it happen!
